Personally, I’ve always been very attuned to the needs and challenges of the differently-abled. I’d say it comes from the experience of being close to someone who fought those battles every day.
And won for 53 long years!
Until last month…
This video I saw today just resonates with me on so many levels.
Martyn Ashton; who, I must admit, I’d never heard of before; was a mountain biker — a very accomplished one at that! A former World Champion mountain bike trials rider, he’s a mountain biking legend!
Sadly, Ashton broke his back on 1 September 2013 (coincidentally 2 years ago almost to the day) during the British Moto GP. The fall left him paralysed from the waist-down.
I sincerely believe it is a testament to his will and passion for the sport that he decided to ride again. Which is what this video is — Ashton strapped with buckles and tape to his bike so he can ride down a mountain. Take a look:
And for those of us who lose heart at road bumps in our life and at failures, the advice to you (and equally to me) is to never give up! A missed job interview, failed startup or a relationship tiff should not bring you down.
